About the Book

Nestled in the Deep American South, this border state – as in the gulf border – holds the Heart of Dixie in its fields. Alabama has seen changes from a tribal area to a hotbed of activism during the Civil Rights Movement. Whether your family is a long-time resident of the state or landed in her hands as part of one of the many migration periods, this guide will help you discover your family’s story. Learn how Alabama changed your family (and, if you’re lucky, how your family changed Alabama!)

Looking to find those elusive ancestors in The Heart of Dixie? The Alabama Genealogy Legacy QuickGuide™ contains useful information including a timeline of Alabama history events, tips on Alabama research strategy, outline of major immigrant groups, and more. Also included are links to websites and resources covering vital records, church records, census records, as well as general Alabama resources.
